THE DEMOCRATIZATION OF MUSIC
It seems like democracy is impacting everything these days, going beyond political systems to influence healthcare, fashion, technology, business, and even the music industry.
Enter PANDORA , an online radio where you get to create your own radio stations that play your favorite artists. Pandora’s main goal, however, is to expose people to new music in the genres they already love. I love it, because no matter how much music I have on my iPod or in iTunes, I’m always looking for new stuff!
Services like Pandora are accessible, easy to use, and instantly satisfying. It’s subtle, but companies like Pandora are not only changing the way we as consumers expect to be serviced, it’s changing the way we expect to experience the products we love.
Pandora is democratizing the music-listening experience in several ways:
INFINITE CHOICES. You set up the radio station you want to listen to based on the genre and artists you like. Then, Pandora intersperses music from new artists in this genre into your radio station, giving you access to new talent and new music that’s hard to find anywhere else.
REAL-TIME FEEDBACK. When you listen to your customized radio station, you can vote thumbs up or down on the music they suggest, providing instant feedback on what you like and don’t like. The music you don’t like is axed from your station; the music you do like is remembered and played again.
DJ DECENTRALIZATION. Instead of a DJ deciding what you should listen to, the power to decide what you WANT to listen to is distributed to you, the listener.
And the tone of Pandora is conversational and authentic. Check it out, share it with your friends, and help spread a little bit more democracy in this world.
