Wallow in silliness here

  • About time

    As an ex-nerd, I agree completely with this PvP strip. I my opinion Scott Kurtz keeps getting funnier, and PvP is currently my favourite online comic.

  • Complaining

    I realized a while ago that if you’re against complaining, you can’t even complain about other people complaining. You can’t even complain about not being able to complain about other people complaining, and you can’t complain about that either. Oh, the agony of the positive approach :o)

  • Karaoke

    And speaking of parties, I’ve just discovered the wonderful world of midi karaoke. Want to sing?

    1: Go here to download an excellent free karaoke player
    2: Go here to download lots of songs
    3: Go buy a microphone and hook it up to your computer

    There are 1000’s of .kar files out there to choose from (a .kar file is a midi-file with lyrics in it, meaning the player can play the song AND show the lyrics karaoke-style). Here are a few of my favourites:
    * Sting, We’ll be together
    * Simon and Garfunkel, Mrs. Robinson
    * Leonard Cohen, Suzanne
    * Billy Idol, White wedding

    It’s amazing that singing has been a huge part of every single human culture that exists, but now it’s almost disappeared entirely. We pay other people to sing for us, and they do a great job, but I believe we’ere losing something. There’s something about singing that ties people together. The indian spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar once said, that if he could only keep one of the practices that he recommends (like meditation, yoga, breathing exercises, etc.), he’d hang on to singing.

  • Host a murder

    Last saturday the Sats Aerobics show team had its christmas party at my place, and we decided to try something new: We bought a game at Murder Mystery Games. This is not a traditional board game, it’s more like impro theater.

    Every guest gets a role and when they arrive for the party they discover that, gasp, a murder has been committed and, GASP, the killer is one of the guests present. The rest of the game (maybe a couple of hours) is spent trying to figure out who the killer is. Every player gets a list of hints that they have to pass on, and based on those you should be able to figure it out. The really fun bit is to stay in character and to improvise accordingly. We had a GREAT time, and people really went to town on the costumes!

    The really cool bit is that even though the game is played live, all of the management is done online. You give the site the emails of your guests, and invitations and pregame info is sent out automatically. Everything you need to actually play the game can be downloaded and printed easily for each guest.

  • Non-inspirational quotes

    Got this in the mail today. Pretty funny!

    Top 20 Sayings we’d like to see on those office inspirational posters:
    1. Rome did not create a great empire by having meetings, they did it by killing all people who opposed them.

    2. If you can stay calm, while all around you is chaos…then you probably haven’t completely understood the seriousness of the situation.

    3. Doing a job RIGHT the first time gets the job done. Doing the job WRONG fourteen times gives you job security.

    4. Eagles may soar, but weasels don’t get sucked into jet engines.

    5. Artificial Intelligence is no match for Natural Stupidity

  • Workday simulator

    Try it.

    I can’t quite decide whether it’s funny or depressing.

  • Pirates of the Caribbean

    I’ll be the first to admit, that when I heard a while ago that Disney were planning to make a movie based on one of their Disney World rides, my first thought was “MAN, that’s going to suck.” I would like to announce that I was way wrong: Pirates of the Carribbean: The curse of the black pearl is an excellent movie! Not only is this one of the best action movies of the year, with all the necessary ingredients (lots of action, excellent special effects and a few laughs along the way), it also has that special something that really catches me: An intelligent script, and excellent dialogue.

    And then there’s Johnny Depp. I promise you, you’ve never seen a pirate like him. Every scene that he’s in is interesting just because you can never quite figure him out – and because he’s wildly entertaining. Johnny Depp is one of the finest actors in Hollywood right now, and his performance takes this movie to a whole new level.

  • Pumpkinspiration

    I had the pleasure of visiting aarstiderne on monday to see how they achieve happiness at work, and the visit and conversations were extremely inspiring.

    For those not in the know, aarstiderne (the seasons, in english) deliver fresh, organic vegetables and other foods straight to peoples homes. Their mission is expressed in one word, “jordforbindelse”, which means grounding or being connected to the earth, and this permeates everything they do, including how they treat employees. Much of what they say on this topic you can also hear in other companies, but these people are serious about it, and show a true dedication to the welfare and growth of their employees.

    I also got the grand tour of their headquarters and surrounding organic fields and forests, and the high point of the tour was – a compost heap. Aarstiderne also test and produce organic seeds in a greenhouse and all the dead plants end up on a large compost heap right outside. Since the compost contains pumpkin seeds, and pumpkins grow well on the heap, the whole thing has beautiful orange pumpkins groing out of it. Click more to see it.

  • Stealth disco

    You sneak up behind a co-worker and disco – without getting caught and with another co-worker videotaping it. Looks like fun.
