  • Speech of my life

Alexander Kjerulf presentingOne hour ago, I gave my best speech on happiness at work so far to 400 people from the The Directorate for Food, Fisheries and Agri Business here in Copenhagen. I’m sitting in a nearby café totally buzzing with the energy of getting up in front of a big crowd and totally kicking butt :o)

I tried out a completely new format for this presentation, one that involves music, clapping, high-fives, various exercises that are more meditative and of course some presentations by yours truly. It works. No, let me rephrase that: IT WORKS and I rock :o)

The feedback from the participants was amazingly positive. They especially remarked on the format, my energy, the topic (happiness at work, of course) and on the fact that it was accessible and practical.

I can’t wait to do it again, preferrably real soon!! MAN, I love being me.

  • New speech format

I spoke about happiness at work at a conference yesterday, and that gave me a chance to try out a new, even more active format than I normally use. I had people visualizing happiness at work, practicing cheerful good morning’s and high-fiving each other. All in all, it was a great success, and I’m going to take my presentations even more in that direction!

I was also interviewed by a journalist from the Danish business newspaper Børsen, and the article is here (in Danish).

  • Free presentation: Festival In The Workplace

EuroGELAs a warm-up event to the EuroGEL conference, Roosevelt Finlayson of the Bahamas and I will be doing a presentation titled Festival In The Workplace.

Roosevelt has been asking himself two simple questions:

    1. Why is it that many people around the world are demotivated and listless at work but when the time comes for the local carnival they work hard, tirelessly and for no pay to prepare it?
    2. How can we get some of the motivation, energy and happiness of the carnivals into our wokplaces?

Roosevelt has created a unique business concept called Festival In The Workplace and together we will do a presentation why festivals create happiness and results in businesses. This will be a unique event, giving you insight into the festival traditions of the Caribbean and South America and how they can be applied in the workplace. There will be music and videos from the Bahamas Junkanoo Festival and plenty of real-life case stories.

    The practical details
The event is thursday august 31st from 4pm to 6pm. It’s at Café Enter, Guldbergsgade 29 in Copenhagen (right next to the movie theatre Empire Bio). It’s in english and it’s free to participate. Send me an email if you’d like to be there but hurry – we only have room for 40 people.

  • Eurogel

Eurogel 06Eurogel, the first european edition of the GEL conference, is happening in Copenhagen on august 31st and september 1st. Read all about it.

What the heck is GEL? Good question!

Short for “Good Experience Live”, Gel is a conference, and community, exploring good experience in all its forms — in business, art, society, technology, and life.

The goal of the conference is to create an environment that allows our multi-disciplinary community to explore the idea of “good experience” in a variety of contexts.

    Previous participants say GEL is:

    • Unexpectedly extremely relevant to how I approach my everyday job
    • A way to learn from, and meet, the people who will be changing the world next year
    • Inspiring, Exciting, Energizing
    • The most unique “conference” experience I have ever known. The thought provoking nature of the event must be witnessed in order to fully appreciate the impact

The people I know who’ve been to the American Gel’s all say it’s amazing, inspiring, weird and wonderful.

I’ll definitely be there and I’ll also be conducting a pre-GEL-event on august 31st (more on that later)! What are you waiting for – sign up for EuroGEL already! You know you want to :o)

  • Happy at work in six minutes

I tried something new at Reboot8: I did a PechaKucha presentation about Happiness At Work. Now there’s a video of it, courtesy of youtube:

Press play to see me introduce Happiness At Work using 20 slides, each of which is shown for only 20 seconds. The PechaKucha format is insane and a lot of fun and I’m very happy with the way my presentation came out. It’s actually a pretty good overview of the topic in just a little over six minutes.

You can also download my 20 slides from the presentation.

Who’s up for a PechaKucha night in Copenhagen sometime soon?

  • Meet a guru is in the media

I talked to a journalist from Berlingske (a major danish newspaper) yesterday, who was very excited about the top-executives-meet-a-guru event I’m setting up. She wrote this excellent piece about it (in danish).
