I’d like to point out: This is not actually a member of the Swiss parliament but one of seven members of the Swiss executive! He’s about to retire from his office. The occasion of the funny scene was a parliamentary enquiry which Rudolf Merz had to answer to in parliament. The enquiry was about the import of certain agricultural goods to Switzerland. Mr. Merz said he had been looking forward to answering this enquiry the whole preceding weekend, since the answer – which was formulated by some customs expert – was in such perfect, absurd legalese…
