  • Help Alex write a book

Happy at work bookI have a big announcement:

Happiness at work is my favorite topic and I believe this idea is revolutionizing the business world. But while happiness is a deep theme in more and more business books (Nuts! and The Seven-Day Weekend are prime examples), there’s still no one book that deals with how you’d run a company based on happiness.

I’m writing that book – and I’m writing it right here on this blog.

The book’s central idea is this:

Happiness at work is the best and most efficient force in business.

You can be in business for money, power, out of ambition or to change the world, but the one approach that will get you lasting success and a good life is to base your business decisions on this question: How can I make myself and others happy through my work?

Click here to read all the details – and please help me out.

  • Gone skiing

Gone skiingAllrighty then, I’m outta here.

I’d love to hang around, but there’s fresh snow in the alps, and Patricia and I can’t possibly stay in Copenhagen and leave those pristine slopes unskied/unsnowboarded by us. It would be against our religion. This time we’re going all out and staying for two weeks of fun in the snow.

While I’m gone, I have a special treat for all the readers of positivesharing.com: I’ve snagged one of my all-time favorite people as a guest blogger.

Traci FentonThat’s right, the one and only Traci Fenton, one of the most determined, energetic, creative, fun, visionary people I have ever met, has agreed to blog right here.

Traci is the CEO of WorldBlu, a company dedicated to organizational democracy. She is also the woman behind one of the best conference events I have ever attended, the WorldBlu forum in 2005.

It’s only fitting that Traci should blog here, because we actually met through this very blog – way back in 2003 I wrote about a mention of Traci in Fast Company. Traci saw that and contacted me.

I’ve also pre-blogged a few posts of my own which will come online while I’m gone. Through the magic of technology… (start spooky voice) it will seem as if I’m still here.

And while I’m gone, why not read my best article on happiness at work so far: Make your business rich and happy.

  • High praise

Last week I wrote a few thoughts on how being incurably lazy has enriched my life, inspired by Fred Gratzon’s book The Lazy Way to Success. Fred read that post and commented on it, saying among other things:

Your insight about starting many small projects and seeing which grabs you is incandescently brilliant. You are absolutely right when you say that the ideas that happen are by definition the right ones.

    Read Fred’s entire comment here.

That’s the first time something I’ve written has been called “incandescently brilliant”. I’m blushing here :o) Thanks Fred.

  • 100 book reviews

100!!!!!!!!!!!WOOO-HOOOOOOO!!!!!! I just posted book review number 100 on the site!!!

I’ve been waiting for a while to find a suitable book for the 100th. review, and that one fit the bill perfectly. It’s one of the happiest books I’ve ever read.

You can see all the book reviews here. Every single book reviewed here is a great read (or I don’t review’em), and they’re mostly about leadership, learning, psychology and of course happiness at work.

  • A new playmate

Jodee Bock writes some very kind words about my post on The story so far.

Thank you Jodee, I’m truly honored!

A while ago I asked “How do you find your playmates”, and increasingly “Through their blogs” is the answer.

  • Moving soon

There will be no new posts for a few days, while I prepare to move this blog to a new server and onto WordPress (which is of course open source and free :o)

The blog will be back later this week with new posts, a new design and (yes, finally) an RSS feed. The URL will remain positivesharing.com, but all permalinks to previous posts will change. Sorry.

  • Coming up on 100

Book review number 100 is on it’s way. Yaaaaay! I’ve been holding back on the 100th review, until I found a suitable book. I’m now halfway through it and a review is coming real soon. And I can safely say, that this is one of the best and most important books about work I have ever read.

The first 99 book reviews are here.

  • Almost there…

I’ve almost reviewed 100 books on this site. I realized last week-end that I was currently reading 10 different books, so I decided to concetrate on actually finishing 1 or 2. I usually read 4-5 books at a time, but 10 is just ridiculous :o)

So expect more book reviews soon.

  • Living vs. blogging

I haven’t been blogging much lately, and the reason is simple: I’m too busy living to write about living :o)

The happy at work project is going so well, that it’s taking up all my time right now, I could fill page after page with all the good stuff that’s happening for us right now, but in brief:
    * The “happy at work” game is finished – and we immediately sold the first 10 copies.
    * We’ve moved into our new offices – they rock!
    * We’re planning yet another Happy at Work Conference – June 2nd at Basecamp.
    * We’re meeting new friends, partners and customers everywhere we go.
    * We hired Mette Nygaard Olsen to work full time.
    * There’s a new Happy at Work Website coming real soon now.
    * We just agreed on our biggest contract so far with a huge international customer.

Phew! I think this will be a very interesting year :o)
