  • 3 reasons why you MUST go to the WorldBlu Summit May 9-11 in Miami

    Screen Shot 2015-09-23 at 16.07.05

If you go to only one business conference this year, make it the WorldBlu Summit on May 9-11 in Miami.

I have been to all their previous events, they always knock my socks off and this one promises to be absolutely amazing and inspiring again.

The theme for the event is democracy at work, ie. how do you create workplaces that are based on freedom rather than on command and control.

Here are three reasons why you should go too.

1: Make your company more profitable
Freedom-based workplaces reduce unneeded hierarchy, processes, bureaucracy and red tape and set employees free to do really good work. This makes the company more innovative and profitable.

    2: Make your workplace happier
Secondly, democratic workplaces are happier workplaces. When you grant employees trust, autonomy and freedom to make decisions, there is a much bigger chance that they will be happy at work.

3: Meet and network with some awesome people
The conference attracts some amazing speakers and companies that are only happy to share their ideas and best practices. I have met so many cool people at this conference and I think you will too.

  • WorldBlu Live! is the conference you do NOT want to miss

    WorldBlu Live

If you go to only one business conference this year, make it the WorldBlu Live conference on May 15 and 16 in Denver.

I have been to all the previous ones, they always knock my socks off and this one promises to be absolutely amazing and inspiring again.

The theme for the event is democracy at work, ie. how do you create workplaces that are based on freedom rather than on command and control and I am among the speakers at this year’s event.

There are two reasons why this interests me: First of all, my company (Woohoo inc.) is run democratically. I can truly imagine no other way to do it. Secondly, democratic workplaces are happier workplaces. When you grant employees trust, autonomy and freedom to make decisions, there is a much bigger chance that they will be happy at work.

  • Woohoo: We made the WorldBlu List of the world’s most democratic companies again

WorldBlu, an American company dedicated to promoting democracy in the workplace, have just released their 2012 list of the world’s most democratic workplaces – and we’re on it again.

On this year’s list you’ll see companies like Davita, HCL and many other great companies who have based their organizations on freedom and democracy instead of command and control.

If you scroll through the list, you will find our company sandwiched between WD-40 and Zappos.com. That’s what I call a place of honor :o) You can see the entire list here.

This marks only the second year that you’ll find any Danish companies on the list, and you’ll find no less than three! Apart from us, there’s also our good friends at Podio, makers of the coolest collaboration software I know and Valtech, a large IT consulting company.

The reason why we run our company democratically is simple: Democracy makes people happy and happy people do a better job. Because we run democratically, we are much better at fulfilling our vision of making many more people happy at work around the world.

I’ll talk more about this at WorldBlu Live in Denver in May 2013, where I’ll be speaking along with many fascinating and cool people. I have been to every single one of WorldBlu’s conferences and they are the very best business conferences I’ve been to. They even beat the TED conference for the sheer energy, inspiration and cool people you meet. You should sign up for the WorldBlu Live conference right now or you will miss out on something amazing.

    Your take

How about you? Is your workplace democratic? Are you involved in making decisions that impact you? Would you like it to be?

  • See me speak at WorldBlu Live in San Francisco in May

I’ll be speaking at the WorldBlu Live conference on May 19 and 20 in San Francisco, an event that promises to be absolutely amazing and inspiring.

The theme for the event is democracy at work, ie. how do you create workplaces that are based on freedom rather than on command and fear. There are two reasons why this interests me: First of all, my company is run democratically. I can truly imagine no other way to do it. Secondly, democratic workplaces are happier workplaces. • WorldBlu Live: The Best Business Conference EVER

    WorldBlu Live 2008

This year’s WorldBlu Live 2008 conference was without any doubt the best business conference I have ever attended.

First of all, the topic itself is ground-breaking. The world needs democracy at work. We need workplaces that are more open, inclusive, democratic and positive.

Secondly, the content at this event was unique. You will not hear this stuff at any other conference.

Finally, the people were amazing. The place was overrun with smart, nice, passionate people.

Karl Staib (who I finally got to meet in person) has a great blow-by-blow write-up of the entire conference. Karl starts his piece with:

Would you love to meet the brightest minds in your industry?

    Who wouldn’t?

    Well, I just did.

I agree completely. But my favorite article from the event may be this one by David Russell, simply because it starts with these words:

Alexander Kjerulf, Chief Happiness Officer, as his title suggests – is happy..! As he bounds on to the stage he exudes energy, and with a twinkle in his eye – also a sense of mischief.

I had no idea I do that. But I’m going to do it even more now :o)

  • WorldBlu Live 2008: This year’s most exciting business conference

    WorldBlu Live 2008

I’ll be speaking at WorldBlu Live 2008 (October 16+17 in New York), the best and most exciting business conference I know. The theme is Democratic Organizations, i.e. organizations that believe in and practice freedom, openness, transparency and engagement instead of top-down, command-and-control management.

There will be some GREAT speakers there – I particularly look forward to hearing Bill Taylor, Tim Sanders and Cali Ressler and Jody Thompson, Co-authors of the best-selling Why Work Sucks and How to Fix It.

Another major treat is the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, who have won Grammy awards despite the fact (or because of it) that they have no conductor.

But the most interesting thing will be to hear from CEOs who practice organizational democracy on a day-to-day basis and learn from organizations who know how to do it and achieve success through it.

Check out this short video invitation from WorldBlu:

The last WorldBlu conference in Washington DC was one of the most inspiring business conferences I have ever attended – I have never seen so many cool, fascinating and fun people gathered in one place. If this sounds interesting to you, check out the web site and go sign up.

I also have upcoming gigs in the UK and France, so there’s some serious travel in my future :o)

  • Podcasts from the WorldBlu Forum

A short while ago I spoke at one of the best conferences I’ve ever been to: The WorldBlu Forum on Organizational Democracy. Previous coverage here, here, here and here.

The organizers have put up podcasts with many of the speakers including Dan Pink, David Weinberger and … me (7 min., 8 Mb mp3) being interviewed by the charming and delightful Susanne Goldstein. I somehow manage to go all the way back to Aristotle and the Dalai Lama and then talk about happiness at work and how it relates to democratic workplaces.

Find all interviews from the forum here.

  • Worldblu Forum starting

I’m now at the Worldblu Forum in Washington DC, and the event is slowly gearing up. People are starting to arrive from the US, China, Iraq, Bahamas, Estonia, Denmark, etc. I keep meeting cool people who do incredibly cool stuf all around the world, and who’re drawn here by the idea of organizational democracy.
